Mountaintop April: A Celebration
In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, “I’ve Been to The Mountaintop”, which was delivered April 3rd 1968 in Memphis TN, the day before he was assassinated, he was talking to a crowd of people about what was happening in the world during that time. One of the things that inspired me in this speech was the continuation of “but I wouldn’t stop there.”
I will not begin to compare our struggles with the struggles of that time, but the complexities are just the same. Many of us have made the decision to homeschool our children or to direct their education in a more meaningful way.
But I wouldn’t stop there. We also have to train their character, teach them right from wrong, teach them our values that will help them to become productive citizens, whatever they choose to do: mom or dad, professor or doctor, teacher or sanitation worker—whatever their choices, we have to train them to be that.
But I wouldn’t stop there. We also must train them spiritually, to understand who God is and that He exists and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. He has plans to prosper us – but I wouldn’t stop there.
We must train them to love their family and to be respectful to mom and dad. By teaching them to honor their parental authority in their lives.
Let us teach our children what it takes to be successful.
I don’t know how your particular situation will turn out, but I do know that if you trust God and continue to go to the mountaintop, you will receive the prize.
We’re taking this month to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy by calling it Mountaintop April, to encourage our members that they will get to the promised land. I am so happy that so many of you have decided to direct the education of your children. You needn’t fear. Because like MLK, “mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of Lord.”
Please read this speech out loud to your family this month.
